Schubert further strengthens its commitment to sustainable business practices

Schuberts participates in the UN Global Compact Network Germany

Gerhard Schubert GmbH has been an official participant in the UN Global Compact Network Germany since August 2024 – thereby supporting the UN’s sustainability goals.The United Nations initiative groups together ten principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption. Its comprehensive framework offers participating companies guidance on how to act responsibly towards people and the environment. By joining, Schubert is also consolidating its commitment to sustainability, which is articulated and implemented at various levels within the organisation.

20 000 participants from 167 nations

The UN Global Compact network currently comprises some 20 000 participants from 167 nations. With Schubert, the initiative has gained an additional sustainability-oriented company that is committed to the initiative’s ten guiding principles – and is therefore receiving further valuable impetus for the implementation of its sustainability strategy. “Sustainability has always been very important to us at Schubert. Reaffirming our commitment to more environmentally friendly behaviour is especially important to us against the backdrop of current global challenges. For this reason, we are participating in the UN Global Compact Network Germany association and are strongly committed to its ten principles,” explains Marcel Kiessling, Managing Director of Gerhard Schubert GmbH.

The photovoltaic system on two hall roofs generates an output of 1 089 kilowatt peak. This covers 25 per cent of Schubert’s in-house electricity requirements.

A comprehensive sustainability strategy

Schubert also considers joining the UN Global Compact Network Germany an important contribution to its own corporate vision. This includes responsible behaviour that takes equal account of people and the environment. The company has already set itself this goal with its Mission Blue Sustainability Initiative, which is based on the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and comprises four areas of action. In addition to sustainable corporate management and climate-neutral production, these include environmentally friendly machines and sustainable packaging solutions that Schubert is developing with industry partners.

Sustainable bonding technology

In terms of machines, the focus is on solutions that save energy through optimised robotic movements, for instance. Schubert is also continuously working on optimising packaging for its customers. For example, the company designed Dotlock, a sustainable bonding technology for cardboard packaging without glue. Schubert also continues to develop its own infrastructure to meet the demand for comprehensive ecological operations. At its headquarters in Crailsheim, the company designed and built a new hall for final assembly with an adjoining office complex which opened in September 2023. One of the world’s largest ice storage systems ensures the right temperatures in the new buildings. In combination with a state-of-the-art photovoltaic system, Schubert can operate several buildings at the site in a climate-neutral manner in accordance with Scopes 1 and 2 of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol – and thereby make a significant contribution to greater climate protection and sustainability in the long term.
